CBD oil for athlete relief
Popularity of using CBD oils for relief of pain, inflammation, and other discomforts caused by several factors. Athletes who endure body pain and discomfort with their training and competitions are one of the demographics where CBD products are most welcomed. CBD products offer athletes an alternative to opioid painkillers that is natural and will not get them addicted.
According to popular athletes such as Nate Diaz, UFC Champion, and Mixed Martial Arts Performer, CBD products “help with the healing process and inflammation”. Another athlete, Tomas Wolfe, Champion Bodybuilder, even endorses CBD products, particularly CBD Asylum, on his Instagram page saying that “This stuff will change your life...Benefits of Cannabidiol: Reduces anxiety, Improves sleep, Supresses apetite, Anti-Inflamatory.”
CBD oil provides a natural alternative for people especially athletes who rely on pain medications and cause side effects such as dependence and addiction.
Most CBD oils are orally ingested and help the body’s (ECS) endocannabinoid system deal with pain, inflammation, sleep, appetite, and more.
How do CBD oils work in the body?
A specialized system called the (ECS) endocannabinoid system can be found in the body. The ECS is responsible for regulating several functions including appetite, sleep, pain, and the body’s immune system.
Studies published in PubMed Central, a highly respected database from the National Institutes of Health,
have shown that CBD can help with chronic pain by relieving the endocannabinoid reception.
One study found CBD injections to reduce pain from a surgical incision, while another study found oral CBD significantly reduced sciatic nerve inflammation and pain.
CBD Benefits
For chronic pain relief:
The body responds to CBD compounds by creating anti-inflammatory and relief signals that help the body manage pain.
There are studies conducted between 1975 and March 2018 that examined various types of pain, including fibromyalgia, cancer pain, and neuropathic pain. Researchers found Cannabidiol was effective with these types of pain and that did not show side effects.
For arthritis pain relief:
Since the general effect of CBD products is anti-inflammatory, a 2016 study looked at CBD use for arthritis. Researchers used CBD gel to animal subjects for four days and the subjects had reduced inflammation in the affected joints. However, more studies in humans are needed to prove the benefits of cannabidiol to arthritis pain management.
For cancer treatment relief:
There have been few studies that show the effects of CBD on cancer tumors, but mostly on pain management with regards to cancer treatment.
The (NCI) National Cancer Institute Trusted Source suggests a possible option for providing relief from chemotherapy side effects such as pain, loss of appetite, and vomiting, which is CBD.
For migraine pain relief:
A study in 2017 indicates that the combination of Cannabidiol and THC can help with acute and intense migraine.
In this two-phase study, some of the participants ingested a combination of CBD and THC which contained 9% Cannabidiol and almost no THC. The other compound ingested orally contained 19% of THC.
In the first phase, 200 mg dosage helped with acute pain by 55 percent and in the second phase, participants felt the frequency of their migraine episodes decrease by 40.4 percent.
While the study only dealt with the combination of Cannabidiol and THC which is prohibited to athletes, retired athletes may best benefit from this combination.
